Police, fire and ambulance crews have been called to a road traffic collision this evening (New Year’s Eve) in which a vehicle has come to rest on its roof. Emergency services were first alerted to the incident on Canteen Road, near Whitely Bank, at around 16:45 after receiving reports that the vehicle had rolled. Those involved have been tended to by paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service, whilst firefighters from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service work to stabilise the car and ensure the scene is safe whilst Police await recovery. It is unclear as to how the incident – which has left the silver motor on its roof on the final corner as you approach Whiteley Bank – unfolded.
Canteen Road is currently blocked between Whiteley Bank and the junction with Ventnor Road. Delays are expected for a while, whilst the incident is dealt with, motorists are advised to avoid the area for the time-being. This is the 2nd incident of the day that has seen a vehicle end up with no wheels on the ground after a Chevrolet was left on its side after a crash on The Downs earlier this morning. UPDATE – It has been confirmed that a 50-year-old woman from Lake suffered minor injuries in the crash and was taken to hospital for further checks.
