Emergency services have been called to a collision on the main road into East Cowes this afternoon (Monday).
The incident has occurred on Whippingham Road near the junction with Folly Lane and Alverstone Road. Emergency services – including a single fire appliance from Newport – were called just after 14:30.
Island Echo understands that the incident has seen 2 vehicles – a grey Mazda, believed to be a driving instructor’s, car and a Jeep Compass – collide head-on with each other, the airbags have deployed on at least 1 of the vehicles.
Paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service – including the Operational Commander – are checking over the involved casualties in the back of an ambulance.
Firefighters from Newport have worked to rid the area from any vehicular fluids.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area for the time being with traffic in the area building.
Police officers are currently directing traffic flow around the incident.
UPDATE @ 16:30 – Traffic is still congested but the vehicles are now in the process of being recovered.

Possibly the worst junction on the Island, but until someone DIES, no action.
Too many local drivers who know the junction is there but insist on doing their 40mph. Cause it’s their right as they’re on the main road.
Perhaps needs dropping tp 30mph for that stretch, this was a big impact !
The junction was only mentioned as a reference to where the accident took place.
