Briddlesford Road has been closed in both directions near Wootton Common today (Wednesday) as a result of a burst water main.
Motorists are being diverted via Whiterails Road, Staplers Road and Long Lane whilst Southern Water engineers work to fix the problem.
The hard road closure is between Wootton Common roundabout and Blacklands Lane, near to Briddlesford Farm, so local traffic can still transit through Havenstreet.

.. and 4-way lights at The Round House in Cowes causing long tail-backs – also a water main problem.
And road closure in Nettlestone
I think it’s terrible. They should do something about it!
Why close a road when the water main is in the field right hand side going towards the tip?and I should know! Unless it’s not a water “main” but just a little com pipe feeding one property, any reason just to close a road!
to get the job done quicker, and to add more than 10 mile round trip journey, adding more carbon emitions into the atmosphere well done Southern water and Island Roads full marks to you instead of giving away the profits to your shareholders ,reinvest renew all old piping wether its black, lead steel too blue pipe .that way you dont have to keep closing off roads
