UPDATED: Rowborough Lane near Brading has been closed in a southbound direction between Carpenters Road and Brading High Street this lunchtime (Saturday) due to damage sustained to the railway bridge.
Island Roads have placed an emergency closure on the main Ryde to Sandown road whilst inspections are carried out on the bridge structure.
It is thought a vehicle has clipped the bridge at some point, causing damage to the brickwork.
All of Southern Vectis’ Route 2 and 3 buses are diverting via St Helens and Bembridge until further notice. Motorists are being diverted via Bembridge also, however Green Lane/Coach House Lane remains open between Ashey and Brading.
The main road remains open for motorists traveling from Sandown towards Ryde.
UPDATE @ 15:00 – Southern Vectis say buses are operating around 30 minutes behind timetable due to the diversion.
Island Line trains are also running at a reduced speed.
UPDATE @ 15:30 – Island Roads say that Rowborough Lane has now reopened, however advise motorists to obey slow signs that have been place on the carriageway.
A bridge inspector from the mainland has been requested to attend.
