Police and paramedics were called to Cowes earlier this afternoon (Sunday) when a car crashed into a parked vehicle on Baring Road, resulting in debris being spread across the carriageway.
The incident, which saw a Honda Civic crash into a smaller Hyundai, occurred shortly before 16:00. The impact was severe enough to result in the deployment of airbags.
The elderly occupants of the Civic were uninjured in the incident, but were checked over by the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.

Oops!
How do you crash into a parked vehicle? Take the drivers license away from them.
Ageism in reporting once again.
Perhaps to be more unbiased the news report should have mentioned colour or sexual persuasion perhaps just to not point a finger at a particular group of people,,,
it is not ageism – it is a statement of fact – they were elderly – why should this fact be omitted, it would cast aspersions on younger drivers, as people would make up their own minds about who they suspected of doing it.
If they cannot see a parked car, then perhaps they shouldn’t be driving. I trust that they will be paying for the damage that they have caused.
those voting down my comment – I do hope that you feel the same way, should your car be smashed into when parked legally, because someone is clueless in their driving abilities.
@jimbob – stop being such a permanently offended snowflake.
@none given…. snowflake… if only you knew…..
It is up to the authorities to decide who and who isn’t competent to drive regardless of age.
As for legally parked, try coming in to Yarmouth up by Bouldner on the A3054 and you’ll see up to twenty legally parked cars in one long line that causes havoc for other road users. But hey, they are all parked legally. you could open a scrap yard with the amount of smashed wing mirrors laying in the road along there…
like I said, stop being a permanently offended snowflake jumping on the PC wagon. The driver of the vehicle was elderly and reported as such – a statement of fact.
this incident was in cowes on baring road, nothing to do with yarmouth nr bouldner – might as well compare with mumbai.
I have driven all over the island over many years and have not managed to trash other peoples parked cars. The driver was clearly not paying attention. They hit a stationary object, legally parked at the side of the road, as displayed in the picture,
with more than enough room to pass safely.
My point, legally parked doesn’t make a jot of difference where it is, you just made a blanket statement of how would I feel if my legally parked car was smashed into.
No PC bandwagon, I just get offended when I see ageism as others do when they see racism, homophobia… etc etc
Other age groups are available . . .
I await eagerly the statement of fact when a news report says “Black person does… or gay person does”…
Jim Bob please shut up
You’re boring!!
jimbob – pc offended, armchair whiner.
we had our car wrote off by a old lady last year while it was parked.
it ended up costing me another 2k to replace our car and was no fault of ours.its so wrong that they get away with this sort of thing and the victim ends up paying out because of some old dears bad dangerous driving.
Should of gone to spec savers
should have done grammar lessons at school
Or even punctuation lessons???
Im not saying all elderly drivers are bad, but there comes a time when you have to accept that you should be hanging up the car keys
I do admit, whenever you have an insurance claim, no one ever seems to get back what they lost no matter who’s at fault. Its a practice that needs to be addressed, people pay so much for insurance, only to be left out of pocket when they’re needed.
Government should investigate and stop them.
My son was involved in yet another accident, this one being on a motorcycle. Merrily riding along in a 40 at 40 a 85 year old lady backed out of her drive into the main road without looking. My son hit her side on, he flew over the top of her car and landed on the road the other side of her car. He was bruised up and shocked. The lady was lucky as he hit the passenger side door(caved in) she got out and hurled abuse at him saying, thank you very much, look what you’ve done, I’ll probably loose my licence now. She did, he got payed what he wanted for bike and new leathers and helmet. Older people are in denial, but we’ll all be there one day !!!
More bad driving on the I o w
