This year’s Easter Duck Race, in aid of Aspire, will take place on Saturday 30th March at Shide Trees in Newport. 1,000 little, plastic ducks will be launched from a bridge on the River Medina at Shide at 13:00 sharp, with each duck costing £1. Depending on water levels, the race normally takes 20 minutes. For 2024, Ryde-based Horsler Lifts have sponsored the £50 first prize and some special Aspire purple anniversary ducks. There will also be a whole host of Easter goodies including Easter Eggs donated by Asda. Thanks also goes to Thompsons who own the car park and allow its use on the day. All monies raised go directly to Aspire – based on Dover Street in Ryde. To buy a racing duck visit https://www.totalgiving.co.uk/appeal/ducks24.

Can they not use something biodegradable?
What, like mallards?
they do pick them all up afterwards… so what’s the problem??
(or have you just got a problem with anyone trying to do anything socially meaningful ??)
Not using polluting plastic is “socially meaningful”. Move away from plastic usage. What happens to the ducks afterwards? Well, ultimately, they end up as landfill, where they degrade and contribute to the pool of microplastics that permeate every environment on Earth, even your body. So stop using plastic!
No doubt they are re-used next year and the years after that.
What, like real ducks?
Maybe use your body parts Steve.
The plastic ducks have been used for 10 years now! All collected and counted at the end – so good for the planet we do get a few real ducks join in! We leave them there
Stop using plastic!
