A 33-year-old man from East Cowes is being investigated for suspected drug driving after he was stopped whilst driving his van in Whippingham last night (Sunday).
The Mercedes Sprinter luton van was pulled over in a layby on Whippingham Road on the way into East Cowes at around 20:00, with no less than 4 Police units soon descending on the scene.
It has been confirmed that the driver failed a roadside drugs wipe and, as a result, was arrested on the spot. He is also alleged to have been driving without insurance and with only a provisional licence.
He was taken into custody for blood samples to be collected, which will now be sent off to the lab for analysis. Should they return a reading above the prescribed limit then he will be charged.
The vehicle was seized.
It was a busy evening for officers from D shift, who also dealt with 2 other suspected drug drivers.
They also responded to reports of a missing child in Ryde. The young girl was located safe and well within a couple of hours.

Man… how hard it is to just be lazy and not do something? Like: don’t take drugs before driving. And by being literally lazy like that you’re also acting honorable as a man making sure fellow road users are safer.
Why state as a MAN ?? Many women do drugs too…
No surprise there then, most van drivers are drugged up, we now that from their aggressive standard of driving..
more from the jewel of the Wight
Why 4 Police Units for one drugged driver???
Little Jon haven’t you learnt anything with the way the police work
Be interesting to find out who this vermin is if he is prosecuted!
Just another pie stuffing, drugged up, lazy van driver…

Someone has cloned your account
No, I truly mean it. I have been unfair, unreasonable and judgemental and I’m sorry.
Don’t ever change burley driver. We would miss your wisdom too much. We all love you.
Another vile scum off the road, well done old bill.
On drugs, no licence, no insurance, no van, no brain.
play silly games, win silly prizes.
4 poolice units,, did they think they were arresting Pablo Escobar…?!
Haven’t you noticed the size of vans in comparison to police cars. Police need to be safe and this driver had nothing to lose if he wanted to TRY to out run the police.
Drugs or no drugs, without a full driving license he shouldn’t even be on the road in charge of a vehicle on his own.
“Everybody was drug drink driving, dooby dooby do do do, those cats were fast as lightning, dooby dooby do do do”, until they got nicked, ho ho ho.
Put him in a sack and throw him in the sea.
