EAST COWES’ NEW COMMUNITY HUB ‘THE EAST SIDE CURVE’ TO OPEN IN LESS THAN 2 WEEKS’ TIME

Interpretation Board 1A brand new community hub and library in East Cowes will be officially opened by the town’s Mayor next month.

On Thursday 11th August, at 11:00, the Mayor of East Cowes Tracy Reardon will officially open ‘The East Side Curve’, located adjacent to the Town Hall on York Avenue.

Back in July 2021, this ambitious project began with the demolition of the public toilets and old flat-roofed extension to the Town Hall. The site has been transformed and now accommodates an iconic new building that includes a meeting room for 12 people, an accessible ground floor Clerk’s Office, a large multi-purpose community space with kitchen facilities which houses East Cowes Community Library, an outside seating area and 3 fully accessible toilets (including 2 brand new free public toilets on Osborne Road).

The Town Council is proud to have used local architects and contractors throughout the project.

Whilst the Town Hall is already busy with groups from fitness classes to social and sporting clubs and activities, community cinema, parties and events, the addition of the new building provides scope for much more. It will be a great venue for members of the community to meet informally, share interests and hobbies as well as being a source of information and signposting to other services for residents and visitors.

Currently, the Town Hall closes at 13:00 but with the opening of The East Side Curve hours will be extended to 09:00-17:00 Monday to Friday and 09:00-13:00 on Saturdays, enabling much more access for the community. All the spaces at the Town Hall are available for booking on evenings and weekends too.

All are welcome to attend the opening or visit at any time up to 17:00 on the day.
