An East Cowes man has admitted failing to provide following an incident that saw him smash into a parked car and then into a garden wall last month. Jason Warren, 54, 0f Grange Road, admitted failing to provide a specimen for analysis when he appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court earlier today (Tuesday). Prosecutor Munayah Hassan told the court that on the afternoon of 31st March (Easter Sunday), Warren crashed a Nissan Leaf into a parked BMW and then a garden wall on Cambridge Road in East Cowes – as previously reported by Island Echo. Police and Paramedics were called to the scene and it was here that a roadside breath test was conducted returning a reading of 100 – almost 3x the legal limit of 35. Having failed the test, Warren was taken to Newport Police Station where he failed to provide a specimen for analysis despite attempting an evidential test 4 times. Defending, Michael McGoldrick told the court that Warren suffered from various health conditions including PTSD, anxiety and high blood pressure and that these conditions could have affected his ability to give a sample. The defence and the prosecution argued about whether or not the refusal to give a specimen was deliberate or not, and as they were unable to decide, the case was adjourned until 6th June when a Newton hearing will take place. Warren was handed an immediate interim disqualification from driving.

What an idiot. Refusing will earn you a harsher sentence than blowing into the breath tester. Of course it’s a refusal and he should be banned for longer for costing the tax payer more in prosecution costs.
Clearly guilty as why else would you crash?. You can blow breathalyser at road side but not at police station. Should have added fine and ban for wasting court time etc
I’m sure he disclosed all those medical conditions when he applied for insurance, still he will have a job getting insurance cover from now on.
If he didn’t have something to hide, he would have provided
BANG HIM UP, keep our roads safe.
Should be jailed straight away, And made to pay for the damage he caused.
He’ll have to pay for his car to be fixed… Insurance co won’t pay for that, only the damage he caused.Could run to a few £thousand or may even be a write off 🙂
You can see where are extra council tax is going ,,,,, buying new cop cars
But not your council tax directly. The registration plate is registered as Portsmouth. Dorset, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police pool cars which is a tax saver. If it was down to just Isle of Wight council tax budget, we’d probably still have a fleet of three Morris Minor Panda cars. But the topic is about this skank who is bang out of order. Lock ’em up! 🙁
No police to catch these people before they crash. The Tories don’t give two S*&^ about law and order. All they care about is putting our tax money into their pockets.
More chance of catching a cold
Defending, Michael McGoldrick told the court that Warren suffered from various health conditions including PTSD, anxiety and high blood pressure and that these conditions could have affected his ability to give a sample.
Simple solution here… Prosecution should get GP records/Hospital records to see if there is any supporting evidence of the ‘alledged’ medical conditions. No evidence, = double length of ban + double fine. Courts absolutely hate being told a pack of lies in a blatant attempt to escape prosecution/reduction in sentence.
Remember Jeffrey Archer ? He got 4 years for lying to the court….
