Police are making enquiries as to the identity of the driver of a van which smashed into traffic lights in Lake late last night (Thursday).
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary was called to Newport Road, Lake at 23:00 to reports of a single vehicle collision.
Officers arrived on scene to find a white Ford Transit Connect had collided head-on into a set of traffic lights.
The driver had already left the scene on foot.
Recovery of the vehicle was arranged and Island Roads was alerted to the damage to street furniture.
Enquiries remain ongoing at this time.

Another sad pissed or drugged or both waste of space..he will be arrested the prick they have his details..
There are too many lawless numpties on island roads,
should easily be able to trace the numpty by the registration
number.
Why flee the scene unless pissed!
I cannot wait until ALL vehicles are scrapped and only
driverless vehicles take to the roads.
Much safer for everyone.
No speeding or driving under the influence, too many
motorists break the law.
The village idiots strike again. And why are there so many VANS everywhere on the Island now? Often illegally parked and badly driven.
Well said.
Many of the Islands roads are narrow and so many
vehicles are too big for such roads.
Talking about idiots parking illegally I was driving
to Ryde today to drop off a parcel and there was a
large van parked on double yellow lines o/s the
council houses along Gt Preston Rd bringing
the road to a halt!
Where is the law on the island, they keep wanting
more of our council tax money but don’t police
the roads.
Parking wardens are useless they spend the majority
of their time along seafronts, the numpties
should concentrate on residential roads.
Everyday I notice vans parked illegally on
double yellow lines, last week one was parked
all day along Oakhill Road in Seaview.
Cllr Jordan needs to do something about illegal parking
on the island.
They need to get parking wardens patrolling all roads,
sometimes I wonder if they turn a blind eye to what is
going on.
We need a new Council, one with law and order.
Tell the island police to contact the DVLA with the vans details and 9 times out of 10 you will find it was the registered owner who was driving?
It is so easy. Islandwide CCTV would also be a plus
going forward.
