A man who was stopped for using his mobile phone at the wheel has been arrested for resisting Police after trying to leg it from officers on a busy road near Wootton this morning (Wednesday).
At around 10:30, the unnamed driver was sighted using his mobile phone whilst driving along Briddlesford Road near Havenstreet, so was pulled over by Police.
However, the driver attempted to leave the scene on foot and resisted officers when they attempted to detain him.
Other motorists say the male was eventually pinned to the ground and cuffed.
The detained individual has been taken into custody at Newport Police Station.
The incident happened near the junction with Combley Road.

It’s common practice with van drivers, it takes a second to hit someone but too many drivers think it’s safe..
The Dentist
The surgeon
The law is the law just hope they catch the many many others who drive and use mobile phones at the same time.
Does this ‘brainless muppet’ think the law doesn’t apply to him then regarding being on your mobile whilst driving? Shame Police Dog Bolt wasn’t sent after him!
Wait for it…. I’m guessing no insurance, tax & mot. Or a warrent served.. Why else would you bolt!
just what I was thinking.
Probably had 1 too many drinks.
Would have been so much simpler to just accept it
would have been even easier not to use his phone….
Left arm swing and right arm swing
What a coward, has no spine to accept he has done wrong. An oxygen thief and a blight on society offering little value and only cost.
Good job.
If I had a pound everytime I saw a vehicle driving along and the driver is on the
Mobile phone, I would be rich by the end of the year.
Police need to drive around in unmarked cars, they would have a field day.
Especially many builders and Taxi drivers, yet alone Joe public.
No arrests for red light jumping? The most common offence.
Why have we got so much scum on our island?
When large blooms of algae decay offshore, great amounts of decaying algal matter often wash ashore. Scum forms as this organic matter is churned up by the surf. Most scum is not harmful to humans and is often an indication of a productive ocean ecosystem.
