A 29-year-old man from Bembridge has been charged with drink driving after Police found his overturned car on a main road near Newport at sunrise this morning (Sunday).
Officers on patrol at 04:42 came across a car on its roof on Long Lane, between Newport and Downend.
It became clear no other vehicles were involved in the collision, and that no injuries had been sustained.
However, enquiries led to a determination that the driver – 29-year-old Nathan Martin from Mariners Row in Bembridge – may have committed offences.
A breathalyser test was conducted, which indicated a failure.
Martin was arrested and taken into custody, where he provided a positive evidential breathalyser reading.
The 29-year-old has now been charged with drink driving and has been bailed to appear at Isle of Wight Magistrates’ Court on 29th May 2026.

Oh dear another useless piece of shit..cars on roof season.
It is shocking the amount of drink drivers on the island.
Everyone knows drink driving is WRONG, especially a
29 year old.
Lifetime bans is the only deterrent!
Jail the snort/swill driving scum
Until p*ssheads are banged up and banned from
driving for life they will keep doing it!.
