Bembridge RNLI launched to the aid of a 37ft yacht in difficulty last night (Friday) after it’s engine broke down whilst on a crossing from France.
The temporary lifeboat the ‘Frank & Anne Wilkinson’ launched at 20:23 at the request of Solent Coastguard to go to the assistance of the vessel, which had started drifting into the shipping lane about 4.5 miles south of the Bembridge Ledge.
Having located the vessel, which had two persons on board, it was quickly ascertained that the engine could not be repaired at sea so a tow was established to Portsmouth.
The yacht was safely berthed at Haslar Marina by 22:50 and the Frank & Anne Wilkinson all weather lifeboat was back at Bembridge by 23:15.
