UPDATED: The Downs Road has been closed by Police this morning (Wednesday) to allow for the recovery of a vehicle that overturned yesterday evening.
Police were called to the initial incident near to Lime Kiln Shute at around 19:15. Officers discovered a Land Rover on its roof at the side of the carriageway.
Bartletts Service Station are now working to recover the vehicle, which has led to the road being closed in both directions.
Traffic is tailed back in the area with Newport Shute reported to be at a standstill. Motorists are advised to divert via Arreton.
The driver of the overturned 4×4 is not thought to have sustained any serious injuries and was picked up by Police a short distance from the scene of the incident.
UPDATE – The Downs has now reopened in both directions.
