UPDATED: Part of The Downs Road between Downend and Ashey has been closed this afternoon (Tuesday) to allow for the recovery of an Island Roads lorry, which has left the carriageway and got stuck in a ditch.
The gully sucker, which is used to clear drains, has slid off the road between Newport Shute and The Hare and Hounds pub.
No one has been injured in the incident, but the vehicle is causing an obstruction.
Island Roads have closed the road between Knighton and the traffic lights at Downend to allow for the recovery of the lorry. Motorists can divert via Newchurch and Arreton.
Bartletts Service Station are on scene and are working to recover the vehicle.
UPDATE @ 16:45 – The Downs has now re-opened to all traffic.
