A 46-year-old man and a 29-year-old man have been arrested after another man was shot in the eye with a BB gun in Ryde last night (Tuesday).
Police were called at 23:34 to reports of an assault at an address in Union Road.
It’s said that a man was shot in the eye with a BB gun, resulting in him being taken to St Mary’s Hospital for treatment.
As part of ongoing enquiries, a 46-year-old man and a 29-year-old man have both been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent. They remain in custody at Newport Police Station at this time.
A cordon has been established around the flat at the centre of the incident and the carriageway directly outside on Union Road, as first reported by Island Echo. Officers remain in attendance keeping a scene guard active.
The casualty has been discharged from hospital.
UPDATE @ 13:50 – Forensic investigators from the mainland – accompanied by local detectives and a staff investigator – have arrived in Ryde to conduct an examination of the crime scene.
The area remains cordoned off this afternoon.
A pet cat has been removed from the property and taken into care.
UPDATE THURSDAY – Police have charged 29-year-old Ronnie Morris with the offence of grievous bodily harm with intent.
