Intense rainfall over the weekend, which has seen the Eastern Yar river swell, is now causing flooding on the main road between Ryde and Sandown.
Morton Common is said to be impassable as a result of flood water submerging the carriageway between Greenwood Lane and Perowne Way.
Water levels have been high and rising overnight and towards first light, with the road flooded by 06:30.
The Environment Agency issued a flood alert for the Eastern Yar yesterday (Sunday) and within that alert advised that flooding of Golf Links Road and Morton Common would occur from early on Monday morning.
Southern Vectis’ Route 2 and 3 buses are diverting via Yaverland, in both directions, until further notice. It means stops between Victoria Road, Sandown and New Road, Brading are not being served.
