A cyclist in his 60s has been taken to hospital with serious injuries following an incident which left him lying in the road this morning (Friday).
Officers from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary and paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service were called to the scene on Stag Lane shortly after 11:00.
At the scene, they found the gentleman in the road, not far from the Stag Lane Motors depot. The road was closed for some time.
The male was taken to St Mary’s Hospital in Newport with what Police are describing as serious injuries. His next of kin have been informed.
Investigations into the incident remain ongoing at this time.

Roads are for tyres, not vehicles
Perhaps lets just focus on the recovery of the injured person involved?
Police are describing as serious injuries. His next of kin have been informed!!!!!…….WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE LIKE YOU????
Thanks for saying this Jo, the administrators of this comments section need to get a grip on these kind of disturbing comments such as the one from Islander, it’s not free speech, it’s a mockery of free speech!
Big Ben end I think you are.
Sad to hear of this accident, a speedy recovery to the poor cyclist involved, I’m sure his friends and family are in bits!
Excessive speed caused by all that streamlined lycra.
Hope the cyclist is well, but I must say Roads on the Island are not
Cycle friendly.
Wonder if it was the same one who rode straight through a red light yesterday afternoon outside Morisons and then weaved his way through the traffic coming out of Church Litten?
Do you journal drivers who drive too fast like that as well? You may want to set a watch on Staplers Road, you will get 10s if not 100s of car drivers speeding over the limit in no time for your journal 😉
Oh, or Old Road in East Cowes. You know the rule of at least 2m when overtaking pedestrian? Sooo many times someone passed me waaay closer. You should set up a watch there as well.
