A man in his 70s has died after suffering a suspected medical episode whilst riding his pushbike in Binstead this afternoon (Tuesday).
Emergency services were called to Verwood Drive, at the junction with Binstead Lodge Road, at around 13:15.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service sent an ambulance crew, an enhanced care paramedic and an operational commander to the incident, at the same time that the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance was scrambled from its North Hampshire base.
Flying medics touched down at Binstead Rec at around 13:25 before travelling the short distance to the scene of the road traffic incident.
Police cordoned off both Verwood Drive and Binstead Lodge Road as investigations got underway, before then recovering the pushbike involved from another location.
Sadly, despite the lengthy efforts of all, it has been confirmed that the man’s life could not be saved. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
A spokesperson from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has said:
“Police were called at 13:15 to reports of a man having come off his bicycle on Verwood Drive.
“Sadly, the man died a short time later.
“His next of kin were present and are being supported by police officers at this time.
“A file is being prepared for the coroner.”

Finally kev gives a good comment
Kindly do not mix me up with the other Kev who uses this site for often one line inflammatory remarks that consistently receive negative thumbs. I do regret the fact I now find the need to reply to you as you comment on a tragic event, and use your comment to act as a dig at me.
Your comment should have been made with understanding and recognition of a life lost. Just how low can you get?
Your kind of input should not be allowed. My apologies to anyone offended due to the nature of the events, but this needs to stop, does it not Island Echo?
Big Thumbs down for you been boring and selfish going on about your issues with your silly comments all the time . Sorry for the family loss
All time much with this idiot Kev
