Firefighters are assisting paramedics with gaining entry to a property in Ryde this morning (Saturday).
Police have closed Cross Street, between George Street and Union Street, whilst colleagues from the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service work to make entry into a flat above a dentist surgery.
Paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service are on scene and are thought to have requested the assistance of fire crews shortly before 08:30.
An extension ladder has been used to reach a second floor window with crews also making their way to the flat internally via a staircase.
A number of tools are being utilised.
The road remains closed with all traffic being diverted locally, including Southern Vectis buses.
UPDATE @ 09:40 – Cross Street has now re-opened but emergency services remain on scene.
UPDATE @ 11:00 – It has been confirmed that the incident was prompted by a woman who raised concerns for the welfare of her friend, who lives alone. However, the individual did not require hospitalisation.
