There is disruption to cross-Solent travel this morning (Wednesday) as many return to work after the Christmas break, with Hovertravel services suspended and cancellations on Red Jet.
Due to adverse weather conditions, Hovertravel services between Ryde and Southsea have been brought to a halt.
An update is expected at 09:00 but it’s unclear if crossings will resume at that time. In the meantime, tickets are being accepted on Wightlink’s Fastcat service from Ryde Pier.
Red Funnel has said that the 07:15 Red Jet from Southampton and the 07:50 return from West Cowes have both been cancelled due to high winds.
This is as a result of Red Jet 6 only running on 3 engines and therefore has limited capability.
UPDATE @ 07:48 – The 08:25 from Southampton and the 09:00 from West Cowes have now also been cancelled.
UPDATE @ 09:27 – Hovertravel services remain suspended with the next update due at 11:00.
UPDATE @ 10:37 – Red Funnel has now cancelled the 10:30 vehicle ferry from Southampton and the 12:00 return from East Cowes due to an issue with the ferry’s communication system.
UPDATE @ 15:47 -Hovertravel’s service remains suspended, with the next update due at 16:00.
Meanwhile, Red Funnel has announced that due to forecast strong winds, in conjunction with Red Jet 6’s operating restrictions, the hi-speed Red Jet service will be operating a revised timetable this evening3
