A crash involving up to 3 vehicles at Whippingham is causing delays on the main road in and out of East Cowes this afternoon (Wednesday).
Island Echo is told that the incident, described as a ‘shunt’, has taken place outside Priory School, between the junctions of Beatrice Avenue and Campfield Road.
Traffic is heavy in the area and motorists are advised to avoid the scene for the time being.
This afternoon’s incident comes just over 24 hours after a fatal collision a mile down Whippingham Road that claimed the lives of 2 men in their 20s.
UPDATE @ 16:40 – Police, fire and ambulance crews are now on scene.
Traffic is slowly moving past the incident using a lay-by as a diversion around the crash scene.
The crash has involved a red Ford Focus ST which has collided into the rear of a silver VW Passat, resulting in the Passat being lifted off the floor.
UPDATE – The incident has now been cleared and the vehicles recovered.
