UPDATED: Police and ambulance crews are attending a road traffic collision on Horsebridge Hill between Newport and Cowes this morning (Thursday), which has resulted in the closure of the main road.
Island Echo understands a motorcyclist has been thrown from their bike following a collision with a van.
The motorcyclist is currently receiving treatment from emergency teams, who were called to the scene near Stag Lane at just before 07:45.
Traffic is reported to be at a standstill in both directions. Motorists are advised to divert via Whitehouse Road, Porchfield.
Southern Vectis say severe delays on their Route 1 service are to be expected.
UPDATE @ 08:20 – The road has now reopened, however traffic remains heavy in the area.
Motorists should allow extra time.
The motorcyclist has been conveyed the short distance to St Mary’s Hospital.
