Cowes Town Council has voiced serious concerns with an upcoming roadworks scheme, which is set to cause major disruption to one of the Island’s main road networks.
The north-Wight authority has said it was ‘not consulted’, nor ‘made aware’ of the junction improvement works on Horsebridge Hill, which from Monday (12th May) will result in a one-way system between Newport and Cowes.
Horsebridge Hill will be one-way until 4th July, meaning motorists driving from Newport will have to follow a 6-mile diversion to get to Cowes. The one-way system is being put in place to facilitate the construction of the Island’s largest affordable housing development in a decade.
Located on a greenfield site at Acorn Farm, Captiva Homes and Sovereign Network Group are building 131 houses and 72 flats.
A Cowes Town Council spokesperson said:
“We are very concerned about the planned roadworks between Cowes and Newport over the next couple of months, and how these will affect Cowes’ residents.
“The town council was not consulted, nor made aware of the roadworks, so we have not had the opportunity to raise concerns on behalf of Cowes’ residents.
“We would very much welcome the opportunity to share our concerns with the relevant authorities.”
County Hall has said a one-way system around the roadwork site has been chosen for 2 reasons: traffic lights would cause more disruption due to the volume of traffic and shutting one carriageway allows more workers and plant machinery to be on site and work on various jobs at once.
Closing a carriageway will also be safer for the work crews, according to the Isle of Wight Council.
Communication on the island is shite!
These building projects cause months of misery to everyone & road closures beeping lorries, connecting up supplies always takes longer than predicted. Thankyou so much Craptiva swelling your profits is all your interested in, making a hite rabbit hutches & adding to the traffic, can’t wait to see what happens on Monday rubbish days ha ha ha
Infrastructure on the island is sh*t
I can travel from Glasgow to Portsmouth by
National Express Coaches for £20.90
Yet I Cannot travel from the island to Portsmouth
for this price.
Something is wrong with the way the island is
being run.
It’s not just the Island,.. It’s the whole country (or probably most of the world TBH…)
it all started with Maggie Thatcher’s policy that nothing, at all, should be done, (in the way of services, or infrastructure, or anything else) unless some rich (CONservative supporter) was making a massive profit from it.
A policy continued by successive governments (not just CONservative)…. Unfortunately Deform are no better in that respect and potentially would be even worse than the Tories…
The current lot, inspite of their political history, just seem to be making it worse.
The end result is that nothing is done for the benefit of the British people, and everything is done to line the pockets of the already rich.
No lights due the volume of traffic? So the fools are sending it to Pallance road!
