The RNLI lifeboat from Cowes was sent to help a boat with 7 people on board when its anchor was fouled on the seabed in the Solent off Wootton this afternoon (Friday 18th August).
The alarm was raised at about 15:00 and a man in his 70s then fell ill with a worrying health condition. He was taken by the Cowes lifeboat to Trinity Landing in Cowes where he was met by the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service and taken to St Mary’s Hospital.
There were 6 other people on board – including several children who stayed with the yacht – accompanied by a RNLI crew member.
Cowes RNLI then returned to the yacht, then at Fishbourne, and dropped the remaining people at the Royal Victoria Yacht Club before escorting the vessel back to Shepards Marina in Cowes.
Cowes lifeboat, which had initially launched at 15:20, finally returned to the station some 3 hours later.
