Agreement has been reached for Cowes Post Office to continue to operate from the current temporary portacabin.
The Southern Co-operative Store had operated Cowes Post Office in its store at Terminus Road, Cowes until it sold its supermarket to Marks & Spencer. For the past three months The Co-operative has operated the branch from a portacabin in the supermarket’s car park, while it served out its notice period for running the Post Office.
A temporary Postmaster is now in place, who will now continue to operate the branch from the portacabin.
The portacabin is a temporary solution to maintain Post Office services in the area whilst talks are ongoing with an interested party to find a more permanent solution. These discussions are progressing well and it is hoped a period of local public consultation to locate to a new site will begin soon.
Julia Marwood, Regional Area Manager, said:
“We are committed to maintaining Post Office services in Cowes. We have been working hard to achieve this. We are delighted that we can continue with a portacabin for the time being and we hope to soon have a proposal for a permanent Post Office at a new location in Cowes.”
