UPDATED: A large yacht stranded in high winds on Bramble Bank at the entrance to Southampton Water is receiving assistance from 2 RNLI lifeboats this afternoon (Tuesday).

It was at 13:43 that Solent Coastguard requested the launch of Cowes’ inshore lifeboat to go to the aid of what is understood to be a local 40ft yacht.

However, the size of the vessel and the strong winds whistling up the Solent has meant that the larger all weather lifeboat from Yarmouth has been called upon to assist in the rescue operation.

Both lifeboats are currently on scene to the north of Cowes.

UPDATE @ 17:14 – The casualty vessel has now been towed into Cowes by Yarmouth’s All Weather Lifeboat and lifted out of the water to allow an assessment of any damage caused.

Ventnor Coastguard Team met the yacht on arrival at the shore.

The incident has now been brought to a close and all crews have stood down.
