A man arrested after attempting to break into several properties – including a church – in Brighstone earlier this year will appear before Magistrates later this month.
Joseph James Irving, 34, of Arthurs Hill in Shanklin, has been charged with criminal damage following a series of incidents that occurred in Brighstone in the early hours of 19th April.
As previously reported by Island Echo, Police were called at around 02:00 to reports of attempted entries at St Mary’s Church, Brighstone Village Stores and the Three Bishops Pub. A door was also damaged at an address on Cotton Grove.
Officers rushed to the scene and made an arrest a little over an hour later.
A Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary spokesperson has now confirmed that Irving has been formally charged with criminal damage.
He is due to appear before Isle of Wight Magistrates’ Court on Friday 15th August.
