A Cowes woman is heading to court next month after she was charged with failing to provide a specimen following a stop in Cowes over the weekend (Saturday). Police first noticed the vehicle when it emerged from the junction at Stag Lane whilst the lights were red. Despite Police turning around and following the vehicle, it was clear the driver didn’t want to stop. After a mile or so the vehicle came to a natural stop and the driver – a woman – was removed from the car. Whilst in custody at Newport Police Station, the female blew a mammoth 160 on the intox machine – well above the legal limit of 35. Now, 2 days later, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary have confirmed that 60-year-old Susan Brocklehurst of Worsley Road in Cowes has been charged with failing to give a specimen for analysis. She will appear at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on 16th August.

She has obviously just come out of the pub, these pubs need to keep an an on people drinking she must of been so p….d and got into a car. So many people are doing it, it’s not acceptable what does it’s take to kill an innocent family, makes my blood boil.
Remove her licence, crush or sell car, make insurance too expensive to enable her to never drive again
That wouldn’t stop anyone driving, just driving legally.
Driving a vehicle with that amount of alcohol in your system deserves nothing less than a life ban.

Drink driving kills – NO EXCUSES
Refusing to provide a specimen is standard practice for those who have experience of the drink drive processes. It deniess evidence of the level of consumption and opens the door to her defence arguing that she had only had a small amount to drink. When I was a Magistrate we routinely sentenced on an assumed maximum to prevent such people benefitting from non-cooperation.

A very long ban with a retest after it’s served and 6 months prison would be appropriate. She’ll find her insurance up in the region of £10,000 a year after her ban is complete. Dangerous moron.
