COUPLE ARRESTED IN SUSPECTED £100,000 VAT FRAUD INVESTIGATION

HM Revenue and Customs officers have arrested a 40-year-old man and a 38-year-old women on the Isle of Wight today (Friday) as part of an investigation into suspected VAT fraud totaling over £100,000.

The unnamed local business couple were arrested at a residential property in Cowes at around 07:00 this morning. The residential address and 2 business premises – thought to be Saffron in Cowes and Yarmouth Spice in Yarmouth – have all been searched.

As a result of today’s operation computers, business and personal records have been seized.

The man and woman have been interviewed by HMRC officers and bailed until 27th March 2017, pending further enquiries.
