The Isle of Wight Council’s licencing team have been forced to halt their plans to implement changes to taxi fares.
As previously reported by Island Echo, it was decided at the tail end of January to increase the cost of using a taxi by 10p a mile with a 50p increase in the initial pick up.
Now, following a large number of representations made by taxi drivers, it has been announced that the amendments to the Table of Fares have been halted as the proposals cannot be implemented as per the Licencing Committee’s decision.
A new report is now expected to be put together and will go back before the Licensing Committee on 20th May with recommendations based on the suggestions received.
The current fares remain in force.
