The leader of the Isle of Wight Council has said that she will “continue to be outspoken about the Island’s needs” ahead of an Islands Forum summit which will be held on the Isle of Wight later this week.
Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, Michael Gove, will be on the Isle of Wight on Wednesday and Thursday (24/25th May).
The 2-day ‘Islands Forum’ will see him meet representatives from no fewer than 10 UK islands, including the Western Isles in Scotland, Wales’ Anglesey and Rathlin, in Northern Ireland.
The event aims to give authorities a chance to collaborate and tackle common challenges, like connectivity and infrastructure.
For her part, the Isle of Wight’s Councillor Peacey-Wilcox says she will continue to be outspoken about our needs and what she called a lack of correct funding.
The theme of this week’s forum – the 2nd such event to be held – will be sustainable economic growth, focussing on innovation and skills.
Sessions will be led by the Migration Advisory Committee and the Shetland Islands Council.
The 1st Island Forum took place in Orkney back in September and the issue of transitioning to net zero was discussed.
This time Cllr Peacey-Wilcox says jobs and training will be on the agenda. She said it is good to hear from other islands and she believes in a ‘stronger voice together’ approach.
Outspoken? Only thing I no about this women is she used to have gollywogs? Never hear anything from her or her achievements for the island??

The main thing this Island needs is a forum on ferries and what can be done to get prices down. Please be outspoken about that.
Why is so much of Tax payers money wasted employing such persons.
Her position is not needed.
I would cut the Council workforce by at least 50% and they would still be over staffed.
With the Salaries, Expenses, Pensions and Company cars, with the monies saved they could then reduce our
Council Tax.

There is a shop along Sandown High Street who sell such dolls.
It’s not a good image in 2023 for the Island.
It’s no wonder Sandown is dying then.
