The Holiday Activities and Food programme is running this summer with skateboarding, performing arts and day trips added to the programme.
There are now more activities for secondary school pupils, new provision in Cowes and more activities in Newport and Sandown. The activities are for young people on benefits related free school meals.
Councillor Ian Stephens, deputy leader and Cabinet member for poverty, said:
“Please don’t be embarrassed about asking for help — support with the cost of living is available for all families this summer holiday.
Article continues below this advertisement “The council has been striving to support residents through the unprecedented cost of living crisis that has impacted so many.
“We know that many families are struggling with daily living necessities like energy and food costs, meaning that activities or a family holiday are out of the question.
“All children and families should get the chance to have fun together during the summer holidays. Please check out our Save on Summer website to find out about free and low cost things to do on the Island, such as our Holiday Activities and Food programme.
“We want to make sure that all Island residents are aware of the financial help and support that is available to them. We’d urge people to find out what they could be eligible for as it could really make a difference to them financially.”

instead of handing out free money to encourage laziness, why don’t you just let these people go without – it will spur them into making an effort in their lives.
All children and families should get the chance to have fun together during the summer holidays
they do- it is free to simply go out for a walk along the seafront, or into the woods – it doesn’t cost anything to go paddling in the sea, it doesn’t cost anything for children to play outside their own homes, or indoors with family, it doesn’t cost anything for a family to simply walk out the door together and enjoy the summer sun.
people seem to think that they have some sort of entitlement to money these days, without actually working for it.
Makes me laugh that “people won’t be getting a holiday this year” when they are living on one of the UK’s top holiday destinations. There is so much to do on the island. Just get out and experience it. Life is for living!

We work hard and you cut services and charge more ????
Why keep dishing out more money ?
Surely this should be means tested ,because I know several people who will claim it because they work the bare min hrs , or they would lose their perks = benefits…
Why should we who take pride in providing for our family be penalised to pay for laziness.
And yes I know there are genuine cases ,but check them out.
I don’t want the money i have worked hard for wasted on the workshy and feckless, if you want kids then pay for them yourself why should we taxpayers have to support you.
