Islanders are being warned about a prolonged period of cold weather over the coming days and the risk of snowfall between Sunday and Wednesday next week.
IW Met Service has issued a cold weather alert which is valid from Sunday 7th to Thursday 11th February.
Nighttime temperatures are expected to drop to a low of -4c in places with daytime temperatures only reaching around 2c, with a mean temperature of below freezing throughout the period.
Occasional snowfall is said to be ‘likely’ at times, especially on Sunday and again from Tuesday.
It’s currently unclear exactly how much snow the Island will see, but a stronger indication is expected over the next 2 days. As it stands a dusting or light covering is possible in places.

IW met services will get it right one day
😉 We managed to get it right last time when we said a few northern parts of the island would see snow falling, and that is what happened! We even posted a video showing it falling in Cowes.
Gosh I hope people drive carefully as many aren’t used to driving in snow and ice.
Many do not need snow and ice.
BBC weather forecasts are saying, quite specifically, no snow for the Isle of Wight. And it wasn’t Michael Fish.
Island Echo took the decision over 2 years ago now to report based on the forecasts from IW Met Service, as we found other sources to be unreliable.
Other forecasts do not take into account the unique geology of the Island and don’t give enough detail. We’ve found IW Met Service to be extremely accurate.
Fish 1987?..when we lost Shanklin Pier…
Pier wasn’t lost, they found it washed up on the beaches
Yes snow for Kent ect not here, don’t get people excited
If you listen to the echo, scaring people in to all this bad snow coming, we would be buying, skis, and sledges,
NO doubt this will be taken off like the last one,
