Gritters are set to be deployed across the Isle of Wight during the early hours of tomorrow morning (Friday) as the mercury is set to plummet to freezing.
Island Roads has confirmed that its fleet of gritters will leave the Stag Lane depot from 02:00, treating the usual routes across the Island.
Local forecasters IW Met Service – the official weather forecasters of Island Echo – say that a cold and mostly clear night is in store. A frost will develop widely along with fog patches in rural parts, especially central and eastern areas. Temperature are expected to be 0-2c but a few rural spots in central and eastern parts are likely to fall as low as -2c – although closer to 4c on windward coasts.
Tomorrow will see a frosty and foggy start to the day with a few bright or even sunny spells developing, but these will quickly fade as cloud pushes in from the west. The afternoon will be mostly cloudy but dry with temperatures sitting at 8-9c.
