UPDATED: Cowes RNLI Lifeboat and Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team are conducting a search of the River Medina in Newport tonight (Friday).
The emergency teams were mobilised at around 23:00 and are currently centering their search around the area of Newport Quay and Seaclose Park.
It remains unclear at this stage what has sparked the search, however it is known that no other agencies are involved.
It is thought The Needles Coastguard Rescue Team have also been tasked to the incident.
UPDATE SATURDAY @ 01:40 – It has been confirmed that HM Coastguard teams from Ventnor and The Needles have been searching for a possible person in the water.
Despite completing a thorough shoreline search of the River Medina with the assistance of Cowes Lifeboat, nothing has been found and crews are standing down.
UPDATE SATURDAY @ 07:27 – Cowes RNLI Lifeboat was tasked to conduct a second search at around 02:20 this morning following the discovery of a life ring at The Folly Inn.
A further search was conducted by Coastguard Officers and RNLI volunteers, before the Lifeboat returned to station at just before 04:00.
No persons have been found and the search has been concluded, with no further searches planned.
