Coastguard Rescue Officers and paramedics have rushed to a medical emergency in East Cowes this evening (Thursday).
Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team – alongside blue light colleagues from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service (IOWAS) – were first called to the scene on Britannia Way at around 16:30.
A short while ago, medical professionals donned lifejackets and boarded Cowes RNLI lifeboat in the marina, heading further along the River Medina toward The Folly Inn.
Island Echo understands a male has come into difficulty whilst on his boat on the River Medina.
Several resources from IOWAS are present at the scene including the Operational Commander and Enhanced Care Paramedic.
The incident remains ongoing at this time.
UPDATE @ 17:55 – The casualty has been packaged into a basket stretcher from a mooring just off The Folly Inn and transported to an awaiting ambulance at East Cowes Marina.
He is to be conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital shortly.
UPDATE FRIDAY – It has been confirmed that a 69-year-old male ended up in the water whilst attempting to board a yacht mid-river, resulting in a leg injury.
Why did they not land him at the folly inn or island harbour ????
