COACH FIRE IN UPPER VENTNOR

imageUPDATED: Firefighters from Shanklin and Newport are attending a coach fire in Upper Ventnor this morning (Thursday).

The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service were called to the scene on Newport Road at the junction with St Margaret’s Glade at around 09:45, after a fire broke out in the under carriage of the Vectis Blue school coach.

Fireifghters wearing breathing apparatus are currently tackling the fire, which is centred around the engine area. The cause is currently unknown.

A thermal imaging camera is being used by crews to check for hotspots.

imageThankfully, no one has been injured in the incident. The coach was not carrying any passengers when the fire broke out.

The main road has closed in both directions between Wroxall and Ventnor. As a result Southern Vectis Route 3 buses are diverting.

Motorists are advised to find an alternative route.

UPDATE @ 10:45 – The fire has now been fully extinguished and crews are making up in preparation of leaving the scene.

The road remains closed.

UPDATE @ 12:15 – The road has now reopened.

The coach has been recovered from the scene by Stag Lane Motors.
