Southern Co-op stores in Bembridge Carisbrooke, Sandown and Shanklin will be opening for limited hours on Christmas Day to ensure residents can access essential items.
On 25th December – a week today – 67 stores will open for a limited period, with main convenience stores trading from 10:00–14:00 and petrol station forecourts trading from 08:00–18:00.
Here on the Island, the following stores are open;
- Shanklin Regent Street
- Bembridge Sherbourne Street
- Sandown Avenue Road (Petrol Filling Station)
- Carisbrooke High Street
Simon Eastwood, Chief Operating Officer at Southern Co-op, said:
“Christmas Day looks different for everyone, but having access to essentials can make a real difference.
“Whether it’s picking up ingredients for a traditional turkey roast, topping up groceries for a neighbour, or making sure someone has what they need if plans change unexpectedly, our colleagues understand the importance of this and have put themselves forward to open selected stores for a short time.

I bet Simon Eastwood won’t be working on that day, ridiculous and yet more erosion of a British Christmas.

Really ! Can’t have one day off a year.
Noooo!! It’s a Christian Holiday!! We only have 2 a year. If people can’t survive for one day over the festive period they really need to give their heads a wobble.
Or is it being done for the ‘diverse’??
I disagree no shops should be open on Christmas day why should people who work in a go to work for the sake of other people, if people don’t have what they need on Christmas day, Tough.
