Christmas came early for Newport on Saturday with a day of fun activities along Scarrots Lane and a parade through the town, followed by the annual switch-on of the Long Lane Christmas lights display.
Following the successful Newport Day of Christmas in November, the County Town enjoyed another busy fun-filled festive day. Santa took some time off from his busy schedule to visit Scarrot’s Lane and there were also some visits by the Snow Queen, huskies, together with Dr Who’s Tardis and characters in World War I costumes.
Newport Carnival arranged the annual Christmas parade through the town, which began at 17:00 and included several marching bands making festive Christmas music and the sounds of Samba echoing through the streets.
Terry Ramplin also added to the Christmas spirit by lighting his impressive display at Long Lane at 18:00, to the musical accompaniment of the Vectis Corps of drums.
