Firefighters are working to contain and extinguish a chimney fire at a property in Thorley near Yarmouth this afternoon (Saturday).
Appliances from Newport and Freshwater, including the water carrier from the West Wight, are on scene at a large property on Thorley Road.
Fire crews were seen responding to the area shortly before 16:00.
The incident is under control with no visible smoke but crews remain on scene.
UPDATE @ 18:30 – The fire has been extinguished and crews are standing down.
It’s been confirmed that upon arrival, firefighters discovered smoke issuing from the chimney as well as the floor boards in a third floor bedroom.
Crews used a chimfirestop for the initial attack on the ground floor as well as breathing apparatus and a hose reel jet on the third floor. This quick action contained and extinguished the fire before it had chance to spread.
Thermal imaging cameras were used to check for heat in the brickwork and stirrup pumps were used to cool the inside of the chimney.

Firemen aren’t like the bobbies I see, that chap in the photo looks quite ‘senior’ in years! Well done the Fire Brigade!
