An increased number of families attended the Children’s Stations of the Cross service on Good Friday (18th April) at St Mary’s Church in Ryde, where young worshippers were led through a reflective journey of prayer and meditation.
Accompanied by their parents, the children moved around the church, stopping at each of the 14 Stations of the Cross displayed on the walls. These stations depict the final moments of Christ’s life – from his condemnation to his Crucifixion.
The service aimed to help the children understand the meaning of Jesus’s suffering and sacrifice in a way that was accessible and reverent.
It concluded with a symbolic act of hope and light as each child came forward with a lighted candle. These candles were placed on display, representing the resurrection of Christ on Easter Sunday and the new light he brings to the world.
Organisers at St. Mary’s Church noted the increased attendance compared to previous years, with many families expressing appreciation for the service’s reflective and inclusive atmosphere.
