UPDATED: Police have cordoned off a cemetery in Newport this morning (Thursday) following the discovery of a body.

Officers are currently guarding the scene at Parkhurst Military Cemetery on Forest Road.

The entrance, just a stones throw from Hunnyhill Primary School, has been sealed off.

It is currently unclear how the deceased has come about their death. Investigations are expected to take place throughout this morning to determine if any foul play has occurred.

A sheet has been placed over the body, which is situated underneath a tree.

UPDATE @ 08:36 – Hampshire Constabulary have confirmed that they were called to the scene at around 06:30 this morning.

It’s understood a man’s body was found hanged from a tree. Unfortunately, there was nothing Police nor paramedics could do to save his life.

UPDATED @ 12:34 – Police have this afternoon confirmed that the body is that of a 26-year-old local man.

Next of kin have been informed.

The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner.
