Police have released images of a man they want to speak to following a robbery at Morrisons petrol station in Newport at the weekend.
The incident is said to have taken place at the busy filling station off Church Litten at around 19:20 on Saturday evening (28th March), as first reported by Island Echo.
It is reported that a man approached a member of staff and kicked him, causing him to fall to the ground. The suspect then allegedly struck the victim in the face, damaging his glasses, before demanding that the till drawers be opened.
After approximately 5 minutes inside the store, the man is said to have left with a bottle of whiskey, a packet of cigarettes and flowers, none of which were paid for.
Thankfully, despite the assault, the victim did not suffer any injuries.
Morrisons Petrol Station was cordoned off overnight and into Sunday as forensic investigators were called in to collect evidence from the scene.
Officers have now issued an image of the man wanted in connection with the robbery.
He is described as white, aged between 50 and 60 years, of stocky build, with a grey beard and short grey hair. He was wearing grey jeans, a black waterproof jacket and a white T-shirt with stains down the front.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary is urging the man, or anyone who recognises him, to come forward.
