Residents in Yarmouth have been left in a state of shock after a cat was found decapitated in a garden at the weekend.
The family pet was discovered in the area of Mill Road near Thorley Brook on Sunday evening. The animal had last been seen on Saturday and had not returned home that night, nor on Sunday morning for breakfast.
Local vets have reportedly confirmed to the owner that it appears the decapitation was a deliberate human attack, although Police say there is no evidence to support this theory at this time.
Fears are growing amongst the local community as a pigeon and a duck were also found in a similar state recently. Those with pets are now trying to keep them indoors to prevent another tragedy.
PC Justin Pringle of Hampshire Constabulary said:
“We can confirm a dead cat was found with its head missing in Mill Road, Yarmouth, on the evening of 26 April, and this was reported to police.
“Officers have conducted a number of enquiries in the area, including speaking to local people and exploring potential CCTV enquiries.
“At this time there is no evidence to confirm any criminal involvement. The incident has been filed pending any further information coming to light.

South Norwood Animal Rescue and Liberty (SNARL) have been made aware of the killing. The group has been investigating similar incidents around the country which they believe is linked to the ‘Croydon killer’. However, the Metropolitan Police have concluded, following a thorough investigation, that the killings were carried out by other animals.
This sick individual needs to be caught very quickly.

Clare are there many of that sort living in Yarmouth now? This is worrying if so, as many are allowed to carry knives and sharp bladed swords as ‘apparently’ part of their ‘religion’.
I feared that such could test their ability to kill on innocent animals first before become more radicalised and killing people. You hear of this happening on the mainland.
Let’s hope it is something less sinister for all our sakes. But this lockdown to extremists could just flip them over the edge by being brainwashed via internet extremist propaganda.

I honestly think that covering storys like this is playing with fire. Not that it’s a bad thing for the information of this situation to reach fellow islanders, but the last thing we need is for people like this getting publicity for their disturbing acts as for them to commit more just so they can get a kick out of it. Out of interest, where does the information about the statement from the vet come from? I know many of the vets on the island due to having 5 cats myself, and I’d like to know – for the sake of the owners – that this information is correct. It is terribly sad when any animal dies no matter the cause, but to be told it was at the hand of a human must be particularly upsetting.
