Police have closed a residential road in Carisbrooke this evening (Tuesday) after a driver suffered a suspected medical episode at the wheel, with their car colliding with a number of parked vehicles as a result.
Emergency services were called to the scene on Mountbatten Drive at around 17:30.
Island Echo understands the driver at the centre of tonight’s response was heading down the hill when they became unwell, colliding with more than 5 vehicles – described as glancing blows.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service currently has 3 ambulance crews in attendance with medical assistance being given to the woman who was taken unwell in a Pegueot 107.
The road is to remain closed for the time being whilst investigations get underway in the full circumstances of the incident.
UPDATE @ 18:52 – The female driver has been conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital.
Police remain on scene and are likely to have a presence in the area for the remainder of the night. Hard road closures are being put in place by Island Roads.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has been approached for a statement and an update is expected on Wednesday morning.

When will the ‘blue rinse brigade’ acknowledge they are as much a liability behind the wheel as drunk/drugged young drivers? There should be a hefty police presence outside Waitrose or M&S for anyone looking ‘off legs.’ Please, for the sake of your fellow islanders relinquish your license!
We heard the driver was young? Blatant ageism at its best. Wait til it’s your turn.. 🙂
Idiot, you do realise you will be one of the “blue rinse brigade” at some point unless you do the planet a favour and stop wasting its oxygen.
Clearly you are selfish and egocentric, it is true i will become elderly one day. I will do my civil duty, hang up my car keys, take the bus, get a home delivery, ask for a lift, or stay at home rather than potentially having blood on my hands. Typical ‘i will do want i want and damn the rest’ attitude that is endemic in this society. Shame on you.
Very fair comment, but as you are not elderly yet, do you believe you will know when you are elderly? there is no doubt a lot of people believe rightly or wrongly they are fully capable of driving. What is your definition of elderly? is it a date in the future or when you have a near miss and blame the other driver? the list could go on, you may have an ‘ accident ‘ the police are called and you are taken to court and found guilty of dangerous driving, your relatives suggest you give up your licence.
Then you are subject to online abuse in the Echo for being to old to drive! Not as black and white as many think.
I hope you live to 100 and know exactly when you can drive no longer, before the decision is made for you!
Kev where is Bev
At what age does one become a member of the blue rinse brigade.
Hope the lady recovers OK but three ambulance crews !!!,
Hope all well with the driver
More old drivers who shouldn’t be on the road .
Where in the report does it mention anything about age??
My thoughts exactly. Do we assume from comments like this ideas about the commenters.
Ah, you can’t beat a good prejudice.
The English Heritage sticker in the back window.
you are a cretin
What do you call old then it could happen at any age Mr perfect driver
Why the feckety feck does it take hours to get a post approved when stuff like this is deemed acceptable?
It’s the law to ensure you are fit to drive. Should be charged.
Is this the now new excuse too avoid driving without due care & attention ?seems few keep on ppopping up!
Happy now you stupid fool, the poor woman died.
Very sad…..R.I.P.
So who killed her ?
Hold YOUR HEAD IN SHAME Jen.
What’s Jen done wrong ?…..NOTHING.
Sincere condolances to friends and family.
