The main road between Shanklin and Ventnor has been closed this morning (Monday) as Island Roads begins a period of carriageway reconstruction works.
From today, between the hours of 07:00-17:00, motorists will have to divert via Whitely Bank and Wroxall when travelling in and out of Ventnor.
Island Roads is carrying out repair works in 5 different locations on Church Road and High Street in Shanklin, between Chine Avenue and Cowleaze Hill. It means that vehicular access between the seaside towns of Shanklin and Ventnor is prohibited.
The roadworks are expected to continue through to the end of the working week, resuming again next Monday. If bad weather forces the schedule to slip the works could continue later into next week.
To assist with access for residents of the Luccombe area, the scheme has been split into 2 phases.
Phase 1: Church Road – between Cowleaze Hill and Manor Road (approximately 3 days)
Phase 2: High Street – from Chine Avenue to Rectory Road (approximately 3 days)
Southern Vectis’ Route 3 buses will be diverting from Trinity Road, Ventnor to St Boniface Road, Mitchell Avenue and Ocean View Road to Upper Ventnor. The bus will then operate through Wroxall and Whitely Bank to pick up the Route 2 route into Shanklin via Victoria Avenue. The diversion will operate in both directions.
A spokesperson for Island Roads has said:
“We recognise that these improvement works may cause some inconvenience for residents and businesses, but we hope any disruption will be offset by the long-term improvements we are making. We would like to thank you in advance for your assistance in enabling us to complete these works”.
These works must have been planned months ago so why could`nt they have been done when Leeson Rd was closed for all of that time ..UNBELIEVABLE
That is because Island Roads don’t have a clue.
Whoever plans the works thesedays doesn’t have a
clue.
