Firefighters are tackling a vehicle fire on the main road between Newport and Cowes this morning (Saturday).
2 appliances from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are currently on scene at Parkhurst Road, which has been closed in both directions whilst crews douse the flames.
The incident has occurred near the junction with Clissold Road, outside HMP Isle of Wight.
No one is thought to have been injured but the vehicle – a modified Ford Focus ST – has been badly damaged by the fire.
It appears the blaze broke out in the engine bay of the vehicle at just before 11:10, as it was travelling towards Cowes.
Traffic is extremely heavy in the area with several Southern Vectis Route 1 buses currently stuck within the closure.
UPDATE @ 12:15 – The road has now reopened in both directions following the private recovery of the charred wreckage.
The vehicle is listed as having no tax or MOT.
Another electric car bursts into flames.
Oh, wait!
That should slow that car down always see it racing around
OMG Another petrol car up in flames. They need to ban these from the ferries. Only allow electric cars as they are significantly safer. Per 100,000 cars petrol and diesel are 60 times more likely burst into flame. Need to be band from the ferries.
“The vehicle is listed as having no tax or MOT” one of many vehicles on the island!!!
Like the Berlingo van GV57RZN parked down Great Preston Road Ryde with

Having NO MOT on the Island is ok according to Island Roads, Ryde District Steward
and IW Council
They are aware of a Citroen van parked down Great Preston Road with NO MOT and it gets used on a
regular basis.
“has been badly damaged by the fire.” Certainly a write-off. Then, again, the driver will not be compensated for the loss as they didn’t have insurance or MOT. That’s a cheerful bit of news to read. I wonder what the magistrate’s court will slam the driver; £150, with £22 costs, maybe? I wish the law would hit more substantial penalties for those who slam around without consideration for others. The trouble is, the Motor Insurance Bureau will now be involved, increasing our car insurance. In the end, loyal, law-abiding citizens end up forking out money to pay for these boy racers. Oh, those blue wheels; tackarama!
Hope the costs of the fire brigade, repair to road surface are claimed at Court by way of compensation and costs.
Looks like boyracer will be out of action…serves him right really
ye does look like it was in the engine bay…………….
Finally some popping and banging we can smile about.
