CAR AND MOTORCYCLE IN CRASH AT APSE HEATH

UPDATE: Police and paramedics are responding to a road traffic collision between a car and a motorcycle at Apse Heath this afternoon (Monday).

The incident has taken place on the main Sandown to Newport road and is causing delays in the area.

Motorists are advised to avoid the scene. However, one of the possible diversion routes, Apse Manor Road, is closed due to a burst water main.

UPDATE @ 14:01 – The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are now on scene with appliances from Shanklin, Ryde and Newport. Crews are working to extricate a female occupant from the vehicle by removing the back seats and the boot.

2 persons have been injured according to the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service, who have 2 ambulances and an officer on scene.

The main road has now been closed in both directions from the mini roundabout to Morrisons. Southern Vectis Route 8 buses are on diversion.

UPDATE @ 14:38 – Both casualties are now en-route to St Mary’s Hospital. Thankfully, their injuries are not life-threatening.

Recovery of the vehicles has now been arranged and once this has been completed, the road is expected to re-open as normal.

UPDATE @ 16:33 – The A3056 Newport Road has now re-opened to traffic.

Southern Vectis’ Route 8 buses are resuming a normal route.
