Linda Pitcher, the mother of disgraced former councillor Daryll Pitcher, is vying to take her son’s place on the Isle of Wight Council in the forthcoming Wootton Bridge by-election, it has been confirmed this afternoon (Friday).
Linda is standing for the Vectis Party, which her son headed up before he was convicted of historic rape earlier this year. His resignation as a county councillor has forced the by-election, to be held next month.
Rumours of her decision to stand for election have been circulating for the past couple of weeks, with many disbelieving the audacity of the move. Some have even questioned that if she was successful in her campaign, whether Daryll Pitcher would still be having an input in local politics from behind bars.
Daryll Pitcher lived with his mother at Norman Way prior to his jailing back in April.
Other candidates confirmed as standing for office are Kite Hill resident Ed Hopper for the Conservatives and Newport’s Michael Smith for the Green Party.
Sarah Redrup – whose address is undisclosed – is standing for the Liberal Democrats, as previously reported by Island Echo.
Unexpectedly, no Labour candidate has been announced with the deadline for nominations having closed at 16:00 this afternoon (Friday).
It means 4 candidates will stand in the by-election on Thursday 24th August.

Disgusting. What is she trying to prove? As we so often witness with newcomers offspring in the UK, the bad apple or paw-paws rarely roll far from the tree.
Can’t see her doing any favours for the party unless the whole world has turned meek and weak.
I look forward to the next feat you pull off to shoehorn your politics into an unrelated story. Maybe leave your thoughts on immigration to stories about immigration, you may find some will start to agree.
He’s false flagging as a nutter to discredit those of us who have real and reasonable concerns about immigration.
As an immigrant, please go stick your head in a pig.
Only on the Island would this happen.
What is her malfunction?
Well that’s a ‘bold’ move from the Vectis Party. Their candidate selection meeting must have been interesting.
You couldn’t make it up. This is messed up on every level.
Oh dear… only over here…
well if you dont like it here move we wont miss you
Proof Caulkheads are Numpties, narrow minded and uneducated.
When did we start treating innocent people as guilty and responsible for crimes that someone else has committed and convicted off??? Glad the commentators here are not the one making up the laws. It’ll be the fifteenth century all over again.
Exactly, also just because a court found him guilty (with very little evidence and he was a child himself at the time) does not prove he was ,look only at news this week.
With regard to immigration comments, let them all have a chance, like said before I would rather live as neighbours to migrants than some of our own bread lazy drugged up tax scrounging scum.
She brought him up to be the person he became. Parents need to take responsibility for the way their child behaves.
So true, parents are to blame for their childrens actions.
Wonder how his appeal is coming along. Does anyone know the actual grounds he’s citing? His only options are that the Judge erred in law or procedure, or that completely new evidence has come to light, both of which are unlikely scenarios.
I did hear he’s supposedly saying the jury was nobbled by people associated with the gravel extraction plans! Should be interesting…
Surely nobody would be stupid enough to vote for her? Although after witnessing people’s behaviour during covid, nothing would surprise me..
She is assuming some of their contacts in WB will ignore all the scandal and give her the vote. Presumably, she believes in the apple of her eye enough to plan to keep his seat warm and hand it back to him……
What is everyone who is slagging her off basing it on? Do you even know what she stands for? Closed and narrow minded a**eholes.
What is wrong with you people. Obviously not one of you has made any mistakes or had a friend or relative that has.
Daryl’s mum has done nothing wrong. She’s had to cope with the actions of her son and has also lost her son to prison. How would any of you feel in her position?
She’s been part of the parish council for a long time which shows a commitment to her community. And she has the courage to stand for election. In spite of what was no doubt expected, public abuse from mouth breathing keyboard warriors here for example.
She has my vote. I want someone with her courage and dedication to her community to represent my interests.
